Gone Camping

For our second Fall Family Campout over the weekend of October 6-8, Pack 100 boasted a huge group of eighty Scouts and family members. Last year, we had the honor of being at the Seminole campground, the farthest from the parking lot. Tis year fortune smiled on Pack 100 as we claimed Ponderosa as our weekend home, the closest campground to the parking lot. What a differnce it makes having a great campsite!

Friday was a low-key evening. After setting up camp, some Scouts went to the dining hall to watch a movie, while the Leaders attended a meeting with the camp directors. Afterward, we had a short campfire back “at the Ponderosa.”

On Saturday morning and later in the afternoon, Dens participated in various activities, working towards an elective adventure for their rank. Te heat and humidity was inescapable, and many Dens found relief in the swimming pool and canoeing areas. Our Lions even enjoyed a popsicle with their Cubmaster to beat the heat. On the other hand, the Arrows wanted to play gaga ball during every free moment!

In the evening, after dinner, the Scouts rehearsed a skit for the closing campfire, hosted by our camp staff from Troop 325. During the skit, our Tigers asked the audience to “be prepared” before walking offstage. Later, the Wolves–Arrows came out on stage and blew their whistles loudly. Kekoa of Den 1 shouted out “we told everyone to be prepared” before leading the group back to their seats. Before going back to our tents, we had s’mores around our Pack campfire. The next morning, after we all had breakfast, we packed up our personal belongings and cleaned up around the campsite. After our camp inspection, we were cleared to head home!

Tanks to Stephen Ramich, Natalie Maranda, and Hoan Forman for helping with lunch, to Janett Rodriguez and Matt Mills for helping around the campsite, and to Rigel and Chuck for making a delicious cowboy stew for dinner. Everyone had a great time! When is our next campout?!?
