For the past three years, Pack 100 has participated in the annual South Florida Fair in West Palm Beach, typically marching in the parade with fellow Scouts from the Palm Beach area. This year, the Pack helped run two events on Saturday, Jan 14, the opening weekend of the Fair.
The first event was the Veggie Derby, setup just outside the Scout Tent. This is a racing event, similar to the annual Pinewood Derby, but using carved vegetables instead of blocks of wood. With the help of Veggie Derby expert and Scouter Craig Dufresne, our Scouts and Parents did a great job of helping guests with their racecars!
On the other end of the Fair, the Pack helped operate the Funhouse, a maze of mirrors and glass. The Scouts learned the path with ease, and guided disoriented guests—thanks again to Dylan L. for getting me out of there—towards the exit and staircase to the upper level. As a “thank you” for our assistance, the Fair donated all of the admittance fees to the Pack.
Congratulations to William W. for representing Cub Scouts and Pack 100 at the Fair by being featured in the Palm Beach Post online slideshow of the Fair.
These events were also on the first Saturday after returning from winter break. Many parents volunteered to work two-hour shifts with just a few days notice. Everyone really came together to make this year’s Fair event more successful than it has ever been before. Great job, Pack 100!
